Virginia's tweets ranked among the most vulgar in the U.S.

The big picture: WordTips scoured 1.7 million geotagged English tweets for the presence of 1,600 swear words and filtered out serial potty mouths.

• About 48 out of every 1,000 tweets from Virginians had expletives, like true Southerners.

• And that puts us at the No. 4 spot in the nation behind Georgia (57.4), Louisiana (61.7) and Maryland (66.3).

Yes, but: People from Baltimore and Baton Rouge swear so much that it tilted their state rankings in their favor, per WordTips.

Zoom in: Richmond Twitter doesn't cuss enough to be in the top swearing cities, but Hampton — which coincidentally has the world's largest naval station — does.

• At 64.7 "bad" words for every 1,000 posts, Hampton is the most foul-mouthed city in the state and sixth in the nation.

Fun fact: The Midwest, which is known for being wildly nice and saying "ope!" instead of "what the 🤬," were among the least sweary states.

The bottom line: Be more like Hampton.
