Can Can Cafe inside the Library of Virginia is closed

State of play: Former Can Can co-owners (and brothers) John and Paul Kincaid worked with the Library of Virginia Foundation to open the cafe and bring downtown a much-needed, post-pandemic lunch option in October 2022.

• Business volume, the need to focus on the Carytown location and the fact that the lease was set to expire drove the decision to close, The Boathouse group's spokesperson Kim Zicopula tells Axios.
• Employees at the downtown cafe all were offered jobs at the Carytown restaurant, where the new owners are trying to staff up to get back to daily hours, Zicopula added.

What we're watching: The library seems to be searching for a new cafe partner to take over the space, per an Instagram post. The library did not respond to a request for more information.
