Spirit Christmas is coming to North Carolina

Every fall, like clockwork, Spirit Halloween stores sprout up across the country, taking over the empty shells of former stores like Joann or Big Lots.

For the first time in North Carolina, the company behind Spirit will add a new offering: Spirit Christmas.

Why it matters: Spirit Christmas will open its doors in Mebane starting in November. It will be the only location in North Carolina, and one of only 44 nationwide.

Zoom in: Spirit Christmas will open in what is currently a Spirit Halloween at the Tanger Outlets, about 23 miles west of Durham.

Prior to that, the store was a Saks Off 5th.

The big picture: The seasonal pop-up is basically Spirit Halloween for Christmas fanatics, swapping skeletons and jump scares for Frosty, giant inflatables, ugly sweaters and holiday displays, Axios Richmond's Sabrina Moreno writes.

It's part holiday store, part attraction, with photo ops and a Candy Cane Express train where visitors can write letters to Santa, according to a news release.
The concept debuted with 10 stores in 2024 before expanding to 30 last year.
