Dix Park adds a 23-foot basketball tree

Zoom in: The new sculpture, called "Orange Functional," is created by the Cuban artist Alexandre Arrechea, who has installations all over the world, including other basketball "trees."

• Arrechea's Dix Park installation stands 23 feet tall and includes 23 separate hoops that anyone can shoot on.
• The sculpture is located in Flowers Field next to the recently renovated Flowers Cottage.

What they're saying: "The moment that interests me most comes just before the shot. Faced with more possibilities than anyone could pursue at once, you have to commit to one without knowing how it will turn out," Arrechea wrote in a statement.

• "We make that kind of decision every day in much larger ways, and I hope the sculpture offers a playful way to notice what it takes to choose and then live with the result."
