A historic cottage in Dix Park will become a bar and cafe this week

Driving the news: Flowers Cottage will open to the public on Thursday, according to the Dix Park Conservancy, the nonprofit that manages fundraising for the park.

• The Dix Park Conservancy funded the renovation, and a portion of the revenue from the space will go back to supporting its mission.

Zoom in: The space will be run by Justin Pasfield and Jeff Clarke, who operate Person Street Bar and Natural Science, a cocktail bar, in Raleigh.

• The renovation added an expansive outdoor patio for eating and drinking.
• The top floor of the cottage will now be home to a coffee shop serving coffee, tea, Italian-style sodas, ice cream and snacks.
• On the lower level, the Park Bar will serve draft beer and wine.

The big picture: It's been a year of growth for Dix Park. In addition to Flowers Cottage, the park has seen the opening of the Gipson Play Plaza as well as the unveiling of Thomas Dambo's troll statues, which have proven to be a popular attraction.
