A Parisian-style cafe is coming to The Exchange in midtown Raleigh

Patrick Shanahan's takeover of The Exchange Raleigh development continues, as the artist-turned-entrepreneur prepares a new all-day cafe there.

Why it matters: Shanahan, who has helped open the restaurant Peregrine and the Capulet Cocktail Club at The Exchange in midtown Raleigh, plans to open Cafe Royale there next month.

Cafe Royale will move into a space formerly occupied by The Optimist coffee shop.
It will also share a courtyard with the Italian-inspired Capulet.

State of play: It's been a busy year for Shanahan, whose flagship bar is Watts & Ward in downtown Raleigh.

This will be his third project to open this year in addition to Capulet and the cocktail bar Rosebud, which replaced Fox Liquor Bar in downtown Raleigh.
Cafe Royale is being designed to operate in the model of a Parisian cafe, according to Shanahan, with the hopes that customers will linger throughout the day. The restaurant will serve everything from espresso drinks and tea to champagne and dessert cocktails.
In addition to drinks, the cafe will serve pastries and sandwiches as well as cheese boards and charcuterie.

What's next: A full menu and opening date are expected in the coming weeks.
