Sunflower's Cafe, a longtime favorite of downtown Raleigh that closed in 2019, is making its return to the City of Oaks.
What's happening: The restaurant, known for its sandwiches and soups, will be reopened by the original owners' son just south of downtown.
Zoom in: Sunflower's was in business for nearly 40 years when it decided to close before the Seaboard Station area was redeveloped by the Washington, D.C.-based developer Hoffman & Associates.
The reimagined version of the restaurant will include many of its signature sandwiches, salads and soups.
But it will also add a full bar and transition into a pool hall in the evenings.
What they're saying: "I'm excited to reintroduce an old Raleigh favorite to a new audience as well as to those who enjoyed it for so many years in downtown," Quinn Ferebee, who is the son of the original Sunflower's owners, Deborah and Clay Ferebee, said in a statement. "I hope to honor my parents' legacy and make it the best it can be."
Location: The restaurant will be at the Rockway apartment building at 925 S. Saunders St., near the entrance to Dix Park and on the Rocky Branch greenway trail.
