Raleigh's State of Beer opens second location

State of Beer, a Raleigh bottle shop and restaurant from the Trophy Brewing team, will open the doors of its second location at 11am Thursday.

Why it matters: State of Beer is the second business to open in the newly renovated bungalows at 853 W. Morgan St.

The Bend Bar, named for the curve in the road it's situated on, began slinging beer, wine and cocktails last month. The two cozy neighborhood spots will bring bustle to a downtown-adjacent area that has long sat vacant.

Driving the news: State of Beer's new location will offer an expanded menu, thanks to more space and equipment, that includes both classic comfort and creative dishes, like mozzarella sticks, loaded beer-battered fries and harissa dry-rubbed wings.

It will also offer some favorites from its original location, including its pimento cheese.
The new location also has a seven-seat bar, dozens of indoor seats, plus a heated patio and backyard space with fire pits it shares with Bend Bar.

The intrigue: The Trophy Brewing team's ever-growing restaurant empire has more in the works.

In addition to two Trophy locations, Bend Bar and two State of Beers , they're also in the process of renovating the former Electric Supply Co. building in the Five Points neighborhood to house what'll be the brewery's largest location, at 23,000 square feet. It's slated to open in 2025.

Meanwhile, the team's Young Hearts Distilling closed its location on Wilmington Street in downtown Raleigh last month and will relocate soon.

State of Beer's original location on Hillsborough will remain open through at least 2026.
