Sir Walter Coffee, a popular Raleigh coffee shop, has opened a second location in downtown this week — this time just a few blocks away from its original location.
Why it matters: The coffee shop's second location, at 555 Fayetteville St., will add food and cocktails to its offerings and is part of a wave of new restaurants trying to revitalize downtown's main drag.
The new spot is part of an effort by one of the city's largest landlords, Highwoods Properties, to add more amenities to its offices in downtown. It also recently opened the all-day cafe Birdie's on the other end of the street.
Zoom in: The new location includes indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar for late-night drinks.
The menu includes breakfast sandwiches, breakfast tacos, salads, sandwiches and late-night bar bites.
The big picture: Many city officials and landlords are hopeful that more investments into Raleigh's downtown core will be able to lift it out of the doldrums brought on by the emptying of offices during the pandemic.
Other recent additions to Fayetteville Street include Chido Taco, Flavor Hills, Birdie's, Insomnia Cookies, Diced and Primo Hoagies.
