The North Carolina Courage could be getting a new owner

• While the Courage have declined to comment on a potential sale, it is so far the only NWSL team that hasn't brought in a new majority owner in the past four years — a time when interest in women's sports has skyrocketed.

Zoom out: Lasry, a billionaire and former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, has been looking to invest in a women's soccer team for more than a year, ESPN noted.

• ESPN said Holiday could be part of the team's board and be involved in player development if the deal were to go through.
• N.C. Courage and North Carolina F.C. are currently owned by Steve Malik, who previously sold the Cary company MedFusion for $43 million and brought N.C. Courage to the Triangle in 2017.
• Other minority stakeholders in the Courage include tennis star Naomi Osaka, Raleigh developer John Kane and Capitol Broadcasting Co.

Fun fact: The Courage is the most recent major league sports franchise in North Carolina to win a championship, earning the 2018 and 2019 NWSL titles.

Zoom in: It's unclear what Lasry's organization's plans are for the Courage, should a sale occur.

• An Avenue Capital rep has not yet responded to a request for comment. Malik also did not respond to a request for comment.

What they're saying: "Women's soccer should go from $50 million to $500 million in the next 10 years," Lasry said at an event last year, ESPN reported.
