The transformation of the area around Dix Park is coming into view, with developers recently celebrating the topping out of a 20-story apartment tower.
Pictured on the right is the first phase of The Weld development, which will bring two 20-story towers at the intersection of Lake Wheeler Road and Hammell Drive.
Under the name "The Holston," the first phase will include 283 apartments and be completed next summer, according to developers Mack Real Estate Group and SLI Capital.
The second phase would add another 525 apartments and is going through the city's permitted process.
The big picture: The Weld is one of several projects targeting the area around Dix Park as Raleigh's next trendy neighborhood district — an investment spree that, in addition to bringing hundreds of new living units, has raised concerns about displacement of longtime neighbors.
