Republican voter registration continued to decline ahead of Arizona's 2026 elections while Democratic registration experienced a post-primary jump, according to figures released Wednesday by the Arizona Secretary of State's Office.
Why it matters: The trends could reflect voter optimism (or the lack of it) in an election that sees Gov. Katie Hobbs and other Democrats in statewide office hoping to fend off GOP challengers.
By the numbers: Republicans still handily outnumber Democrats in the state, though that advantage has slimmed since the start of 2025.
- There were over 300,000 more GOP voters than Democratic ones in January 2025, but that gap has narrowed to about 283,000.
- Republican have lost about 80,000 voters since the start of last year, while Democrats gained nearly 29,000 since the July primary.
- The relatively new No Labels Party has picked up roughly 15,000 voters this cycle, while the non-affiliated voters — who tend to swing Arizona's elections — swelled by more than 28,000 people.
What's next: Early voting for the Nov. 3 election is underway.
