The Arizona Humane Society is waving adoption fees for dogs 50 pounds and heavier through Jan. 15, 2026.
The big picture: Owners are surrendering big dogs in record numbers, according to the organization, often because of escalating vet costs and a lack of pet-friendly housing.
State of play: Hill's Pet Nutrition is covering the adoption charges for these pups and providing a free bag of dog food to every adopter.
Threat level: "Every extra day a dog spends in a kennel increases stress, risk of illness, and prevents us from rescuing another animal in need," Arizona Humane Society president and CEO Steven Hansen said in a statement.
