"Doomsday Mom" Lori Vallow Daybell on trial in Arizona for murder conspiracy

• But prior to their deaths, prosecutors believe she was also involved in her former husband's murder and the attempted murder of her niece's husband while living in Arizona.

Catch up quick: Daybell's friends and family say she became radicalized by a fringe, apocalyptic religious group led by Chad Daybell, whom she eventually married. Shortly after the two met in 2018, members of both of their families suffered mysterious deaths and attempts on their lives, including:

• Charles Vallow, Lori's former husband, who was shot and killed at his Chandler home by Lori's brother Alex Cox (another cult member) in July 2019. Cox, who died of natural causes in December 2019, claimed self-defense.
• Brandon Boudreaux, the estranged husband of Lori's niece (who had also joined the cult), narrowly avoided being hit during a drive-by shooting near his Gilbert home in October 2019.
• Tammy Daybell, Chad's former wife, reported someone had tried to shoot her in October 2019 but the gun misfired. Ten days later, she appeared to die in her sleep. Investigators later determined she died of asphyxiation. Chad was convicted of her murder and Lori was convicted of conspiracy to commit the murder.
• Lori's children, 7-year-old J.J. Vallow and 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, disappeared in late 2019. Their remains were found in unmarked graves outside Chad's Idaho home in June 2020. Chad and Lori were convicted in their murders.

The latest: Daybell was extradited to Arizona in 2023 following her Idaho convictions. Her first Arizona trial, related to Charles Vallow's killing, began with jury selection in Maricopa County Superior Court this week.

• Although it was Cox who shot Vallow in 2019, a Maricopa County grand jury indicted Daybell, alleging she helped plan the killing.

Zoom in: Daybell, who is serving as her own defense attorney in the case, became agitated with prosecutors Monday, alleging they were trying to preclude witnesses whom she wants to appear during the trial, Arizona's Family reported.

• "I feel like the state is trying to say, 'OK, here's your speedy trial. Guess what? We're not going to let you defend yourself,'" Daybell nearly yelled during her court appearance.

What they're saying: "This is a game for her. She's taking advantage of her last opportunity to be in the spotlight," Daybell's cousin Megan Conner told ABC 15 following the outburst.

What's next: Jury selection is expected to continue through the rest of the week, with the trial to begin immediately after.

• Daybell's second Arizona trial, where she'll face attempted murder charges for the shooting attempt on Boudreaux, is scheduled to begin at the end of May.
