2024 was the hottest year on record in many U.S. cities, including Phoenix where the average high temperature was 90.5℉.
Why it matters: The year's record hot temperatures include periods of extreme heat, which is a deadly hazard, and demonstrate how long-term, human-caused climate change is playing out in our community.
- Phoenix set a record last year for the most days with highs that reached or exceeded 110°F, with 70 such occurrences, smashing the previous record of 55 days.
Zoom out: Flagstaff experienced its third-warmest year and Winslow's record tied its second-warmest year.
