As Eastern U.S. preps for arctic blast, Phoenix forecasts higher-than-normal temps

• A remnant system from the arctic blast is expected to make its way to the Valley and cool temperatures ever so slightly. Instead of temperatures 10-15 degrees higher than normal, we'll only be 5-7 degrees above normal early next week, NWS Phoenix lead meteorologist Alex Young tells Axios.

What they're saying: "It's not going to be anything to the magnitude of what eastern parts of the country are going to experience," he said.

Between the lines: The cooldown is not forecast to bring any precipitation to the Valley, Young said.

• We are currently in our fifth-longest dry streak on record. Phoenix Sky Harbor has not seen measurable rainfall since Aug. 22.

The bottom line: It's all fun and games when we're sunbathing as most Americans are bundled up — but we won't be laughing if our above-normal temperatures continue into the summer.
