Portillo's will replace shuttered Chandler Sandbar Mexican Grill

West Chandler is trading a beachy Mexican bar for a Chicago staple.

The big picture: Portillo's is continuing its takeover of the Valley with another location on Ray Road east of Interstate 10.

It will replace Sandbar Mexican Grill, which closed in 2023 after 14 years in business. All Valley Sandbar locations have since shuttered.

Zoom in: The new Portillo's will be smaller than other metro Phoenix restaurants at about 6,250 square feet, but will still have the company's signature double drive-thru lanes, per a press release.

Zoom out: This will be the Chicago-style hot dog chain's 10th Arizona location.
