Arizona's Heisman-less streak continues as Skattebo finishes fifth

• That means the award didn't go to ASU's star running back Cam Skattebo. 
• Skattebo wasn't a finalist, snubbed in favor of Hunter, Boise State's Ashton Jeanty, Oregon's Dillon Gabriel and Miami's Cam Ward.
• Yes, but: Skattebo finished fifth in Heisman voting.

The big picture: No player from an Arizona school has ever won the Heisman.

• The only Arizona player to even be a top-three finalist was ASU quarterback Jake Plummer in 1996. Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel won the Heisman that year, with Iowa State running back Troy Davis the runner-up. 
• Last year, former ASU quarterback Jayden Daniels won the Heisman after transferring to LSU.
• No UofA player has ever been a Heisman finalist. 

State of play: Arizona is also among the 23 states that have never been the birthplace of a Heisman winner.

• Nearly 40% of Heisman trophies have gone to athletes from California, Ohio and Texas.
• California has produced 15 Heisman winners, the most recent being Daniels.
• Nine winners were born in Ohio, nine in Texas and seven in Pennsylvania.

One saving grace: Skattebo didn't get the accolades he — along with many Sun Devils fans — thought he deserved as a Heisman finalist, but he made the All-America first team, along with UofA wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
