Democratic U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego and Trump-backed Republican Kari Lake face off in one of the nation's most closely watched U.S. Senate races.
The big picture: The seat was left open when independent U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema decided not to seek reelection.
Zoom in: Gallego is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who's served in the U.S. House since 2015.
- Lake is a former FOX 10 anchor who lost to Gov. Katie Hobbs in the 2022 gubernatorial election. She's been one of former President Trump's closest Arizona allies.
What we're watching: The first batch of results, including ballots received before Election Day, is expected around 8pm.
