Manufacturing jobs in the U.S. now exceed pre-pandemic levels, and Arizona has seen a bigger increase than all but a few other states.
By the numbers: From 2019 to 2023, manufacturing jobs in Arizona increased by 9.46%, from 177,610 to 194,407.
That exceeds the national increase of .72%.
Only Utah (11.75%), Nevada (11.15%) and Florida (9.63%) saw larger increases than Arizona.
Why it matters: It's the first time since the 1970s that the manufacturing industry has recovered all the jobs lost during a recession, per an analysis of government data out Tuesday from the Economic Innovation Group, a centrist think tank.
