No flags, just facts: Axios Local reporters settle a 52.7-yard debate

The big picture: Between lunch and snack time, we spent the better part of a half hour debating how many yards long the field was during last month's Axios Local retreat.

• We even enlisted one of our managing editors, big-stepper Mike Szvetitz, to lock in an answer by pacing off the field, since they say one stride equals three feet.

Imprecise, sure, but we all thought that's where this experiment would end.

Yes, but: Then our intrepid Axios Cleveland colleague Sam Allard took it a step further, contacting Cox's PR team for an official answer.

• They consulted the building renderings, which showed the field measured 52.7 yards.

💭 Isaac's thought bubble: Cue the "Here Comes the Hotstepper" lyrics.

• I told these fools all along that the field was between 50 and 60 yards. You could say I have an eagle eye.

The bottom line: One reporter's bullish pursuit of facts over speculation proves why Axios Local is so valuable to readers in every one of our 43 cities.
