Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season after doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs, per media reports.

Why it matters: The Eagles are in a tailspin, and Hurts' diagnosis raises concerns about his football future, though the team expects him to recover without any "long-term effects."

Driving the news: The Eagles said in a statement Monday that Hurts' outlook is "very good" and that he's expected to "make a full recovery."

Catch up quick: Hurts was placed on injured reserve after a blood clot was discovered in his calf and didn't play in Sunday's loss to the Panthers.

Further testing revealed "a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli," per the team's statement.
Hurts is being treated with blood thinners and cannot participate in football-related activities while undergoing treatment.

Reality check: Backup quarterback Tanner McKee has some big shoes to fill.

The 28-year-old Hurts, now in his seventh season with the Eagles, is a Pro Bowler who was named Super Bowl MVP in 2025 after leading the Birds past Kansas City.

What they're saying: "We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery," the team wrote.
