25 years: Marking 9/11 anniversary in the Philadelphia region

The Philadelphia region will mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with memorial runs and shows throughout the weekend.

The big picture: More than 50 of the roughly 3,000 people who died in the 9/11 attacks were from the Philly region, including 18 from Bucks County.

Three people who died in the attacks were living in Philly at the time: Jasper Baxter, Kevin Leah Bowser and Christopher Robert Clarke.

👀 View: Memorials that include artifacts from the attacks are scattered throughout the region and state, including twisted steel from the Twin Towers.

Locations include the east side of the Schuylkill River, King of Prussia and Lower Makefield Township.

🎭 Watch: The Fringe Festival will hold an interactive tribute to mark the anniversary with music, storytelling and performance art on Friday at 8:30am.

The event will take place at the 9/11 memorial in Philly near the Chestnut Street Bridge (enter via Locust Street). Free, but RSVP online.

🏃‍♀️ Run: The 9/11 Heroes Run 5K at the Navy Yard is set for 9am on Saturday. There's also a 1-mile walk/run route and volunteers are needed. Cost: $26-$51.

🙋 Volunteer: Help maintain the National Cemetery in North Philly during a National Day of Service on Saturday. Starting at 10am, volunteers will remove debris and clean headstones. Register online.
