With fewer than 90 days until the November election, Gov. Josh Shapiro has a massive cash advantage over Republican challenger Stacy Garrity

Why it matters: There's an old political adage: Cash is king. And Shapiro's sizable campaign war chest strengthens his position as a popular incumbent seeking reelection.

State of play: Shapiro began June with $38.3 million on hand, per campaign finance reports.

Garrity, who is currently the state's treasurer, had just $1.1 million at the start of the summer.

Between the lines: Garrity's lackluster fundraising comes despite aligning with President Trump and running unopposed in the Republican primary for governor.

The intrigue: Her fundraising also could signal skepticism among Republicans that she's unlikely to unseat Shapiro.

For Shapiro, a likely 2028 presidential contender, raising massive sums of money could strongly hint at a future bid for the White House.
