World Cup fans have to shell out more for water and beer at Philadelphia Stadium than many U.S. host venues.
Why it matters: Fans coming for soccer could get their biggest surprise at the concession stand.
State of play: In Philly, a 20-ounce water bottle will cost you $6.99, compared to $3 in Atlanta and $5.25 in Los Angeles.
- 🍺 And fans in Philly are paying some of the highest prices for beer across U.S. host cities — $18.58 for a 16-ounce domestic beer.
- Meanwhile, craft and international beer, along with hard seltzers, run $20.85 and the cocktail crowd is paying $23.09.
What they're saying: Didier Occident of Virginia, who attended the Brazil-Haiti match last week in Philly, told Axios that the concessions prices were insanely expensive.
- "I go to a lot of sporting events, and I knew with the way that FIFA was kind of gouging with the tickets" that prices would be high, "but for us, this was a once-in-a-lifetime thing."
How it works: Unlike previous World Cups, where FIFA had one concession model throughout all games, this year it partnered with different operators, per a spokesperson.
- "Food and beverage pricing at FIFA World Cup 2026 stadiums is broadly in line with pricing at regular events held at each respective venue. As a result, prices may vary between venues," the spokesperson tells Axios.
U.S. stadiums have also adapted their menus to showcase regional cuisine.
- Case in point: In Philly, food concessions range from brand names — like Philly Cheesesteak Co., Tony Luke's, Zac's Hamburgers, Pretzel Factory and G'Day Gourmet — to unnamed shops selling "Philly Favorites."
Zoom in: When it comes to food, it'll cost you at least $20-$22 for a cheesesteak, $22+ for a roast pork sammie, $20+ for a chicken sandwich and $14+ for a burger and veggie burger.
Other options:
- 🐔 Chicken tenders: $19+
- 🌭 Hot dog: $9+
- 🍟 Fries: $9-$19+
- 🍕 Pizza: $13+
- 🥨 Soft pretzel: $9+
- 🥟 Pierogies: $18+
- 🧊 Water ice: $16.73 (16 ounce)
💧 Pro tip: Bring your own soft, plastic, disposable and factory-sealed 20-ounce bottle to the stadium for free refills at water stations.
- Fans can also stop at StateSide Live! before matches to avoid paying high prices inside the stadium.
🥧 Mike's pick: Mike found a concession stand selling Australian meat pies ($17.27) and couldn't resist.
- He opted for the curry goat pie. The handheld pot pie, similar to an empanada, was delicious but skimpy in size (considering the price).
