250th: Carpenters' Hall to celebrate PA's break with the Brits

Driving the news: The state leaders will gather at Carpenters' Hall on June 24 to reread the state's Declaration of Independence — 250 years after it was first ratified in the very same building in 1776.

Flashback: At the time, Pennsylvania had just 10 counties, and delegates from each — including Philadelphia — gathered at Carpenters' Hall for the Pennsylvania Provincial Conference.

• That's where they basically told King George III — in the most Philly way possible — that his services were no longer required.
• Ten days later, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence at what's now Philly's Independence Hall.
• In 1982, state lawmakers officially designated Carpenters' Hall as the Commonwealth's birthplace.

The bottom line: Now we're back for Round 250, Georgie Porgie.
