Philly bars are pouring patriotic drinks for America's 250th

Driving the news: More than 30 city hotels are participating in Visit Philadelphia's new cocktail trail initiative, which is launching today and running through Sept. 30.

Zoom in: Bartenders across the city did their homework, channeling their inner Ben Franklin, who once said wine was "proof that God loves us."

• They developed boozy recipes and fun drink names, including The Bistro's "Betsy Berry" and mocktail "Liberty Lemonade," plus First Daughter Oyster & Co's "Schuylkill Punch."

Yes, and: There's a little friendly competition, too: Visitors can scan a QR code to check in at each hotel, with the location that logs the most check-ins earning bragging rights when the winner is announced in October.

• Visit Philly is also donating up to $5,000 to PHL Cares as part of the campaign.

The bottom line: Cheers to life, liberty and the pursuit of a good, little buzz.
