NBC brings back the '90s vibes for Sixers vs. Spurs

Driving the news: NBC is recreating the entire retro feel of its 1995-96 telecast — from in-game announcers to on-screen graphics and even grainy highlights packages.

• Costas — the longtime face of "NBA on NBC" — is handling play-by-play duties alongside analysts Mike Fratello and Doug Collins while Jim Gray is handling sideline reports.

What they're saying: "We're not just going to give a taste of the history, it's going to be entirely about that," Costas told the Sports Business Journal.

Reality check: Let's hope not everything is a throwback to that era.

• The Sixers, then led by rookie Jerry Stackhouse, won only 18 games during the 1995-96 campaign.
• Yes, but: That allowed them to land lottery pick Allen Iverson No. 1 overall in the 1996 draft.

Flash forward: With Paul George still suspended and center Joel Embiid sidelined again with an oblique strain, the Sixers will look to guard Tyrese Maxey, who is putting up his own Iverson-like numbers this season, against the Victor Wembanyama-led Spurs.
