Volunteer spots are still up for grabs for the PGA Championship coming to the Philadelphia region in May.
Why it matters: It's a relatively cheap way to access one of Philly's biggest sporting events of 2026 — and score free perks.
Driving the news: More than 3,000 volunteers are expected to work at Aronimink Golf Club during the May 11-17 tourney.
- Volunteers are the lifeblood of the tournament, helping ensure the event runs smoothly.
- Worth noting: The PGA is the only professional sport where volunteers are so closely integrated into its operations.
Yes, but: The most sought-after posts have already filled up.
- That includes those for crowd control, scorers, ball trackers and standard bearers.
What's left: Roughly 200 positions in the PGA Shops.
How it works: Sign up for morning and/or evening shifts over 10 days on the PGA's website.
- Cost: $270
- Volunteers are asked to work at least 16-20 hours, or three to four shifts.
What you'll do: Shop volunteers will work inside a football-field-sized, air-conditioned pop-up tent at the entrance of the course.
- They will welcome guests, stock inventory, operate the cash register and help visitors buy goods.
⭐ Best benefit: Personalized credential, allowing you daily access to the course as a spectator for the length of the tourney when you're not working.
Meanwhile, tickets to the tournament are pricey — if you can get them.
- Championship+ grounds tickets for competition days on May 14-17 (Thursday-Sunday) have already sold out.
- After-market sites are reselling tickets for hundreds of dollars.
What else: Volunteers will also receive:
- 👕 Volunteer uniform
- 🍔 Food and beverage
- 🎒 PGA drawstring bag
- 🅿️ Complimentary parking pass
What they're saying: Jacob Wilson, volunteer operations manager at PGA of America, tells Axios that volunteering is like a family, with some people traveling every year to take part, along with newbies signing up.
- "No matter what your exposure to the game of golf is, this is a great opportunity to be a part of something that opens up your eyes to how golf works," he said.
