Philly's Rocky statue could get new home this year

State of play: The Philadelphia Art Commission will likely give the green light today for a plan to permanently move the Rocky statue now at the base of the art museum steps to the top, near where a loaner statue has stood since December 2024.

• The final review of the city's proposal is on the commission's agenda, set for 9:30am.

Yes, but: The statues won't move overnight, should the art commission approve.

The plan: The original statue — which was featured in "Rocky III" and has been at the base of the steps since 2006 — would remain in place until at least late April.

• That's when the statue would move inside the art museum for a new Rocky exhibit, which runs through Aug. 2.
• Fun fact: This would mark the Rocky statue's first time inside the museum.

Then in the fall, the screen-used statue would take up permanent residence at the top of the art museum's steps.

• At that time, the temporary Rocky statue (now at the top of the stairs) would return to Sylvester Stallone.
