Behold the first look at "Rooted: Originals of American Garden," this year's theme for the Philadelphia Flower Show.
Why it matters: The annual festival of flowers is the nation's largest indoor gardening exhibition — an event that draws hundreds of thousands of people to Philly. The show is also a sign that winter won't last much longer.
Driving the news: This year's show taps into the semiquincentennial vibes by looking back at the people, places and traditions that shaped American gardening, according to fresh details that the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, which is hosting the show, revealed Wednesday.
- That includes a special, four-garden exhibit celebrating 250 years of horticulture in the U.S., including one from world-renowned designer Kelly Norris.

📸 Selfie-magnet: This year's entrance garden — dubbed "The Forest Floor" — will star a show-stopping twisting root structure that will create an archway (see above).
🗓️ Mark your calendar: The show runs Feb. 28-March 8 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
- Tickets: $20-$100, kids under 5 are free.
- Pro tip: Twilight tickets run $33-$44 for access after 4pm.
The big picture: Philadelphia has the highest concentration of public gardens in the U.S., hence the region's "America's Garden Capital" moniker.
- "This is the home of American horticulture, and the flower show is our invitation to the world to join us here," PHS president Matt Rader told CBS News.
What's new:
- ✂️ Artisan Row, the show's hub for crafting workshops, will expand and add more programming, which will include how to make terrariums, floral handbags and custom hats. (Pay as you go)
- 🛍️ The Marketplace will move to the street-level of the convention center
- 🧭 An updated layout
🏆 Plus: Don't miss the always-popular plant and design competitions, featuring amateur and expert growers.
🦋 Family favorites: Butterflies Live! returns, allowing you to get up close with hundreds of native and exotic butterflies. (Pay as you go)
- And the Kids Cocoon will again offer activities for the kiddos (free).
