The Philadelphia Marathon weekend will draw roughly 37,000 runners to city streets this weekend.
Why it matters: The three days of festivities and tests of endurance will bring widespread road closures.
Driving the news: The full 26.2-mile marathon steps off at 6:55am at 22nd Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Sunday.
What else:
- Friday and Saturday: A free health and fitness expo, along with a children's fun zone, is at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
- Saturday: Half marathon and 8K.
- Sunday: Kids Run.
❌ 1 bummer: Spectators can only place larger sets, like tables and tents, along pre-approved cheer zones this year, per a new policy from organizers.
- Apply to join one of the marathon's cheer zones on the organizer's website.
Yes, but: Individuals can still stand and cheer practically anywhere along the route.
🚧 Road closures begin today and will grow each day to include the length of the race routes. They include:
- The Parkway's inner lanes in both directions will close from 9:30am-2:45pm today. During the afternoon rush hour, outbound lanes will reopen and then close again.
- On Saturday and Sunday, the I-676 westbound off-ramp at 22nd Street and the I-76 eastbound off-ramp at Spring Garden close at 4am.
Worth noting: On Saturday, all streets are scheduled to reopen no later than 2pm.
- Then on Sunday, all roads will reopen no later than 3pm, with the exception of Eakins Oval and the Parkway (5pm)
🚌 Plan for SEPTA bus detours along the race routes and event areas on Saturday and Sunday.
🅿️ Be smart: "No parking" regulations are in effect on Saturday and Sunday.
- All vehicles along the race routes will be relocated starting at 1am on Saturday.
