Driving the news: Federal court filings made public last week revealed the U.S. Justice Department has subpoenaed several hospitals for extensive data surrounding transition-related care provided to individuals under 19 since the beginning of 2020.

• That includes a June subpoena that requested records made by CHOP doctors related to gender-affirming care — like therapy, hormones and surgery — along with patient data, including birthdates, Social Security numbers and addresses.

Context: CHOP's Gender and Sexuality Development Program is among the largest in the U.S. to provide care for transgender and nonbinary children.

• Meanwhile, other hospitals in the Philly region and Pennsylvania have pulled back on certain gender-affirming care for children this year amid the Trump administration's crackdown, including Penn Medicine, Nemours Children's Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
