Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is running for a third term in Tuesday's primary.
Meet the candidate: The 64-year-old Democrat is a former criminal defense and civil rights lawyer.
🏡 What neighborhood do you live in? Center City
🍽 What's one Philly thing voters don't know about you? I'm a massive foodie.
- When I'm not in the office, I'm exploring farmers markets around the city and the 9th Street Market.
Do you support the death penalty? Yes (✅) or no (❌)
- ❌ No
💰 Do you support the use of reduced or no cash bail for some offenses? Yes (✅) or no (❌)
- ✅ Yes
Do you support the city's new "wellness court" in Kensington, which operates outside the district attorney's office? Yes (✅) or no (❌)
- ✅ Yes
📝 Explain your answer. We want to work with Mayor Cherelle Parker, her team and the courts on the best way of rolling out an approach that focuses on prevention and treatment while also improving the quality of life for neighborhood residents.
What's your stance on assisting federal immigration agents in Philly? The MAGA Trump agenda is designed to weaken our communities and terrorize hardworking families while making us less safe.
- My office will not be commandeered by an out-of-control Trump administration. ICE agents trying to break the law in Philadelphia can FAFO.
💡 What's 1 big idea you want to bring to the district attorney's office? We want to expand diversionary programs to make them even more effective and to serve more offenders to help individuals become productive members of society while improving public safety.
🔨 What's 1 reform you want to bring to the city's criminal justice system and why? Totally eliminate cash bail.
- Because of existing state law, we have not been able to roll out the most effective version of bail reform in Philadelphia. Other cities, like Washington, D.C., have eliminated cash bail and focused on keeping dangerous offenders off the streets while not penalizing poverty.
Sum up your approach to leading the district attorney's office in 7 words or less. Stand up to bullies, solve crimes, fairness.
And of course, why do you want to be district attorney? Philadelphia wants someone who will fight against bullies, from Donald Trump to shooting groups.
- And because of that, I'm running on my record of making Philadelphia safer while also creating a more fair criminal justice system and tackling mass incarceration.
