Philly recruiting "Phambassadors" for nation's 250th birthday

Calling all "Phambassadors." It's time to flex your love and knowledge of Philly.

Why it matters: City tourism officials are recruiting 10,000 "Phambassadors" — people who know everything there is to know about our beloved city — to bring more flair to our nation's 250th anniversary celebrations next year.

Driving the news: The Philadelphia Visitor Center Corp. and Visit Philly kicked off the campaign yesterday during a pep rally at Love Park.

How it works: Tourism officials say they need people who can champion the Philly cause, know where to find the hotspots and little-known gems, and can tell stories about our rich and deep history.

Program participants really down for the cause may get a chance to attend Pham Camp, where they'll be trained on exuding that Philly pizzazz.

Want to join the Pham? Start by signing the Phambassador Pledge. It's does a pretty good job of summing up Philly's ethos:

"Yo Philly! I Brotherly Love You(se) more than: Cheese loves a steak. Ben loves his kite. Rocky loves Adrian. The Roots love a Picnic."
