Report: No cockpit audio recorded in Northeast Philadelphia plane crash

The big picture: The plane crash in Philly came days after the deadliest aviation disaster in more than two decades, when an American Airlines passenger jet collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter outside Washington, D.C.

Driving the news: Investigators determined the Learjet 55's voice recorder likely hadn't been recording audio for several years, per the report.

• Investigators are still analyzing the plane's enhanced ground proximity warning system, which could contain relevant flight data.

How it happened: The jet crashed onto the sidewalk along Cottman Avenue near Roosevelt Mall around 6:07pm, about a minute after it took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport for Missouri.

• The plane reached an altitude of 1,650 feet and the estimated descent angle was about 22 degrees, per the report.
• The flight crew was in communication with the airport's air traffic control tower at the time of the accident and no distress calls were received from the flight crew, per the report.
• The flight's pilot had 9,200 total hours of flight experience.

• One person was killed on the ground: 37-year-old Philly resident Steven Dreuitt.
• Two dozen people were injured, and debris damaged several homes, businesses and vehicles.

The crash left a deep crater in the ground, and the debris field spanned more than 1,400 feet by nearly 850 feet, per the report.

What's next: The NTSB's final report, which will state the probable cause of the crash, is expected within two years.
