What's new at Eastern State Penitentiary's Halloween Nights

Driving the news: The annual event, which runs through Nov. 9, will feature a new immersive, theater-style experience dubbed "Beyond the Veil."

• Spanning the 10-acre former prison site, the experience combines puzzles, quests and challenges as characters engage with visitors.

What else: Five haunted houses, photo opportunities, and set upgrades.

• Plus: Check out Halloween-themed bars and lounges, like The Speakeasy at Al Capone's Cell; flashlight walking tours, live entertainment and food and drinks.

Tickets: $39+ for general admission.

• VIP Tickets (available for purchase online only) run $59-$89 and include access to The Speakeasy at Al Capone's Cell, two complimentary drinks and express entry.

Parking: $20-$25 at the Philadelphia Zoo's parking garage and shuttle ride.

• No parking available at the former penitentiary.
