Fireball is Pennsylvania's top-selling spirit

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky is king of Pennsylvania.

The latest: That spirit in a 50ml bottle was the highest-selling in the state for the third year running last fiscal year, per the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's latest annual report.

  • Fireball was followed by New Amsterdam Vodka (50ml) and Tito's Vodka (1 liter).

Why it matters: Liquor sales are big business, generating more than $3.1 billion in sales from July 2022 to June 2023, up 4.5% over the previous year, per the report.

  • The sales funded state coffers, local governments and others to the tune of nearly $870 million.

Zoom out: Allegheny County, which includes Pittsburgh, was the top-grossing county, accounting for 13.9% of sales, followed by Philly at 11.1%.

  • The biggest-grossing Fine Wine & Good Spirits location out of 586 licensed stores in the state was at 2238 Washington Avenue in South Philly.

Zoom in: Whiskey topped all spirits in sales followed by tequila in the city.

  • Total sales rose 5.7% over the previous year.
