Artists incarcerated in Pennsylvania prisons arecreating a new positive pipeline of artwork.
Driving the news: The upcoming exhibit "Art Beyond Bars: The View From Here" features the work of nearly two dozen artists incarcerated at SCI Phoenix, a maximum-security state prison near Collegeville, and in San Quentin, California.
The showcase, running March 1-24 at the Paradigm Arts Building, is a partnership between Mural Arts Philadelphia and the William James Association.
Prisoners communicated by letter for a year to make the show a reality.
What they're saying: "This exhibition is not just an array of art; it's a resonant journey through hope, resilience, and the unstoppable creative will of people," Jane Golden, Mural Arts' executive director, said in a statement.
