Josh Shapiro, the state's top prosecutor, will launch his bid for governor on Wednesday morning in Pittsburgh, according to his campaign.
Why it matters: Shapiro, 48, is the first Democrat in the state to seek his party's nomination for the 2022 primary.
State of play: Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, is unable to run for a third term.
- Expect a crowded race, as several Republican candidates have already begun vying for their party's ticket, including former U.S. Attorney Bill McSwain.
Bio in brief: Shapiro, who lives in Abington, is the two-term attorney general.
- Before that, he was a Montgomery County commissioner and a state representative.
What's ahead: Shapiro will host another rally on Wednesday at 6pm at Penn State Abington in Montgomery County to kick off his "Big Fights Bus Tour," according to his campaign.
- He'll travel through the state over the next week.
