Here are 10 options for putting gratitude into action this holiday season:
- The Salvation Army of Northwest Arkansas — Ask about bell-ringing shifts and helping with Angel Tree gifts. Contact the local command for opportunities.
- 7hills Homeless Center — Serve meals, organize donations or help with the clothing closet. Its volunteer instructions welcome walk-ins after signing the volunteer handbook.
- Little Free Pantry — Add food and personal care items to a neighborhood pantry. The movement started in Fayetteville, and its map can help you find a pantry to stock.
- Pedal It Forward NWA — Volunteers fix and clean bikes, sort parts and make deliveries. Shops are in Bentonville, Rogers and Springdale. Start with an in-person orientation.
- Northwest Arkansas Food Bank — Sort and pack food, help at a mobile pantry or stock shelves and bag groceries. Register online.
- Best Friends Animal Society — Care for cats, help with the pet pantry or take a dog on an outing. Volunteer options also include photography and helping transport animals.
- Senior Support in Action — Make visits, help with groceries or tackle yardwork for older NWA adults. Washington Regional's program works with volunteers.
- Canopy Northwest Arkansas — Help refugees get to appointments, practice English or prepare for job interviews. Career coaches commit for at least three months.
- Community Blood Center of the Ozarks — Schedule a donation at the Bentonville or Springdale donor center, or find a mobile drive.
- Goodwill Arkansas — Put a closet cleanout to work by donating gently used clothing and household goods. Sales support education, job training and employment services.
Time is tight during the holidays. Financial donations are always an option.
