A replica of an entire supermarket — except all made of felt with no touching allowed — is on display at The Momentary in Bentonville.
🛒 State of play: I checked out "The Beginning of Convenience" by Lucy Sparrow a few months into its nearly yearlong stint. It includes aisles of more than 20,000 replicas of grocery products and other items you'd see in a typical supermarket, like toiletries and magazines.
- There's a hint of nostalgia, as it's inspired by a 1980s-90s Walmart. (Watch for local Easter eggs — Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art executive director Rod Bigelow is on the wall as the "director of snacks.")
💭 Alex's thought bubble: It is wild to see all the little handmade details on so many individual items throughout the "store." You'll find mockups of familiar brands and even movie titles in the electronics section. The amount of detail is almost difficult to take in, and walking through it is a whimsical experience.
🗓️ If you go: The free exhibit is on display until July 11.
