Walmart and Sam's Club awarded 54 entrepreneurs "Golden Tickets" to sell their products through the retail giants following last week's pitch event in Bentonville.

Why it matters: The selections give small businesses a chance to reach Walmart's massive customer base and expand beyond their existing markets.

How it works: The annual Open Call event allows American entrepreneurs to come in person to Walmart's Bentonville campus to pitch their products and receive mentorship on how to grow their businesses, according to Walmart.

This year's event brought 150 entrepreneurs from 35 states and Puerto Rico. Those who received a "Golden Ticket" will sell their products at Walmart or Sam's Club stores or at Walmart.com.

Zoom in: The pitches included home, sporting goods, pets, food, beverage, baby, and personal care products.
