Monday Munchies: Hook, Line and Smoker

Most NWA barbecue aficionados will remember that Wright's Barbecue started as a food truck and that one of Jordan Wright's top locations was at the corner of North Crossover Road and Joyce Boulevard in Fayetteville.
- A new truck recently settled in the same space, and the aroma from Hook, Line and Smoker enticed me to check it out.
The setup: As I'm sure you've guessed, it's a combo seafood and barbecue spot offering everything from catfish to ribs.
- Short on calories this particular day, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries, slaw and beans ($15) and asked for a single rib ($5.50).
- I was delighted to hear that the sandwiches are "build your own," meaning the food comes with a bun on the side, so you don't get a sloppy mess during the drive home.
I've noted many times my barbecue bar is pretty high, so nothing short of Jones' Bar-B-Q Diner is likely to get me excited.
- But I'm glad to sample new places and mention those I think have promise.
The verdict: Hook, Line and Smoker shows plenty of promise. The pork was tender, moist and well-smoked. If the pitmaster keeps improving their craft, it'll only get better.
- The sauce was better than most at new places but still needs a "signature" flavor, IMO.
- The fries and beans leave room for improvement.
The caveat: I was disappointed when I got home to find I'd paid for but not received my single rib.
The bottom line: It's worthy of a try, and maybe I'll go back to check on the "hook and line" portions.
