Taxes collected on Arkansas' tobacco and alcohol sales totaled about $231 million during the first 11 months of the state's fiscal 2026.
Why it matters: The revenue helps fund state government services, including education, public assistance, corrections, Medicaid, transportation and other programs.
The big picture: Tobacco and alcohol taxes accounted for just under 3% of the roughly $7.76 billion in gross general revenue Arkansas collected from July through May.
By the numbers: Tobacco taxes generated about $163.4 million through May, more than twice the $68 million collected from alcohol sales.
May alone brought in $7.5 million from alcohol sales, the highest monthly total in the period, and $15.2 million from tobacco sales.
