Crystal Bridges adds Indigenous works

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art said yesterday it is adding a group of contemporary Indigenous works as it prepares to reopen its expanded campus on June 6.

Why it matters: The new works will elevate Indigenous voices historically underrepresented in major collections, according to the museum.

State of play: The acquisitions include works by recognized artists and regional voices, exploring themes like identity, sovereignty and cultural continuity.

• It includes works by artists like Jeffrey Gibson, Nicholas Galanin and Kent Monkman, and commissioned works from artists including Teri Greeves and Jeri Redcorn.
• The museum also added pieces by regional artists Addie Roanhorse and Cherokee Nation artist Jane Osti.
