👋 Alex here. I've been out lately in part because I was at a conference focused on data journalism in Indianapolis.
📊 What happened: It was the annual NICAR (National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting) conference hosted by Investigative Reporters and Editors. I went to sessions all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday and am happily overwhelmed with the amount of information I digested.
My hope and intent is that what I learned will ultimately help inform you.

🤝 Zoom out: Being in Indianapolis also gave me the chance to grab lunch with our Axios Indianapolis reporters, Arika Herron and Justin Mack. They showed me a great local place, Café Patachou, to have an omelet and we were able to talk shop about putting together a local newsletter.
🏁 I also made it over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, with a good old friend who is now a reporter in Connecticut. When in Indy, you have to try your hand at race car driving, at least in the confines of a simulator. I didn't even crash.
