Fayetteville solicits input on School Avenue

The city of Fayetteville is accepting feedback on its planned South School Avenue improvements, which include the section between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and 15th Street.

The big picture: The area is part of the city's U.S. Highway 71B Corridor plan, which includes the traffic artery from Cato Springs Road in the south to Zion Road in the north, excluding the section between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North Street.

State of play: Fayetteville has drafted three concepts for the road, with examples of furnishings, art, planters, pavement types and other amenities, the Fayetteville Flyer reports.

All concepts show the street's two outside lanes being replaced with a sidewalk, an amenity zone for furnishings and plantings and space for parallel parking on the street.
Turning the intersection at School Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard into a roundabout is an option.
About 13,000 vehicles travel that section of South School Avenue.

What to know: Residents can learn more and leave feedback at the city's Safe Streets for All - South School Avenue Improvements site.

The bottom line: Federal grant money will cover $3.75 million of the project, with the city covering $1.25 million.
