I've been thinking about our very own chocolate factory ever since Onyx Coffee Lab co-owner Jon Allen showed me around Onyx's new spot in downtown Springdale earlier this year.
🍫 Catch up quick: Onyx's chocolate brand, Terroir, has been around for some time, with chocolate bars being sold at the company's coffee shops and Terroir chocolate being used in Onyx's menu items. But the sweet stuff hasn't been so front and center — until now.
- Allen previously told me Onyx wants to "make a mark" with this three-story, 6,400-square-foot café on Emma Avenue that also serves as the new headquarters for Terroir.
☕️ The intrigue: While the new space offers Onyx's reliably excellent coffee menu plus brunchy entrées, I was told there would be chocolate and an emphasis on desserts, so I came on a mission.
🍬 What to try: An assortment of bonbons. These are rich little chocolate treats that can satisfy a craving with a couple of bites.
- And they made an Onyx Delight - the company's staple drink with honey, vanilla, cinnamon and espresso - in bonbon form.
- The Mocha and the Fig Chai were also delicious.
🍩 Zoom out: Also, try a sweet roll ($6.50). They come in ube, chocolate, cinnamon or orange flavors and are rather large with a generous amount of cream on top. I was glad I got an ube one to share.
