The man accused of killing two people at Devil's Den State Park last month had applied for jobs this year at the Bentonville and Fayetteville school districts, the districts confirmed to Axios, in addition to being hired at the Springdale school district.
What they're saying: "This individual did submit his resume but was deemed unqualified for employment in Bentonville Schools," Bentonville Public Schools spokesperson Leslee Wright told Axios in an email.
- "He did apply, but we did not interview him or offer any positions," Fayetteville Public Schools spokesperson Alan Wilbourn said in an email.
Catch up quick: Arkansas State Police arrested Andrew McGann, 28, of Springdale last week on suspicion of murdering a married couple, Clinton David Brink and Cristen Amanda Brink, when they were hiking on a trail with their 7- and 9-year-old daughters. The children were not injured.
- He was arrested four days after the bodies were found and is charged with two counts of capital murder.
Flashback: McGann had been hired to teach this school year at Springdale Public Schools and previously taught at schools in Texas and Oklahoma.
- He was put on administrative leave from his elementary school teaching job in Texas in 2023 "following concerns related to classroom management, professional judgment and student favoritism," school spokesperson Samantha Fitzpatrick previously told Axios.
Zoom out: Police said last week that the victims also had another daughter who wasn't with them at the time of the attacks.
- The third daughter is older than her siblings, Arkansas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Cindy Murphy confirmed to Axios. Murphy did not have her exact age.
What's next: McGann's arraignment is set for Aug. 14. He is being held at the Washington County Detention Center without bond.
